Live in Green is a refugee-led social enterprise based in Kyaka II Refugee Settlement, Uganda. It address energy poverty, environmental degradation, and waste management through innovative and community-driven solutions. They operate the largest Energy Resource and Waste Recovery Centre in Uganda’s refugee settlements, where they collect waste from local communities and carefully sort it: biodegradable waste is carbonized into clean-burning briquettes or processed into compost manure, while inorganic waste such as plastics and e-waste is repurposed into valuable products. Alongside these efforts, they provide clean energy technologies such as eco-stoves, briquette-making machines, and solar-powered refrigeration, reducing pollution, creating green jobs, and advancing circular economies.

Live in Green also runs the largest tree nursery in Kyaka II Refugee Settlement, producing over 100,000 seedlings annually to restore degraded land through agroforestry, afforestation, and reforestation initiatives. In addition, their climate-smart agriculture programs support food security by training refugee and host community farmers in sustainable practices, distributing high-quality planting materials, and establishing kitchen gardens.

Through these integrated interventions, Live in Green empowers vulnerable communities, restores ecosystems, and builds resilience to climate change while generating sustainable livelihoods.
