PROJECT GRANTS

The New Africa Fund supports projects across Africa in a range of development fields that include: Poverty Reduction, Health, Education, and Human Rights. These grants are awarded to run specific projects identified by these local organizations and submitted to the New Africa Fund.

NDONGO UNITED HERBALISTS ASSOCIATION (NUHA), UGANDA

Ndongo United Herbalists Association (NUHA) is a community-based organization in Kasese district, Rwenzori region of Uganda, with the mission of improving community health and livelihoods, especially among children, elderly, and pregnant women. NUHA has trained 1,452 farmers on regenerative agricultural practices and use of quality indigenous seeds and helped several of them increase their income by 70%, reducing malnutrition among vulnerable families. The New Africa Fund has co-financed the acquisition of a castor oil machine to boost oil production from 5 liters a week to 20 jerry cans a day, improving the income of several women that NUHA support.  Learn more about NDONGO

SCORE CBO, KENYA

SCORE is a community-based organization that aims to strengthen community resilience against extreme situations of poverty, diseases, and ignorance through capacity building, livelihood support, partnership, and need-based advocacy in Homa Bay County, Kenya. Through their projects, the organization has supported 100 students who are now university graduates and created health and livelihood awareness for over 2,000 youth and smallholders farmers. The New Africa Fund is supporting SCORE CBO to start their rural environmental sustainable Technologies program in Homa Bay County, Kenya by growing 500,000 trees and supporting 100 marginalized youth and women. SMALL SCALE LIVESTOCK AND LIVELIHOODS PROGRAM (SSLLP), MALAWI

Small Scale Livestock and Livelihoods Program (SSLLP) is a local research and development non-profit NGO established in 1996 in Malawi. SSLLP has established several processing facilities for youth and women groups in agriculture and supported over 15000 farmers in the livestock sector. SSLLP introduced 3 breeds of livestock into Malawi, improving the business appeal for smallholder farmers. With the NAF grant, SSLLP is developing a mobile and web-based application to support livestock farming in Malawi. The app will focus on production, business analytics, input supply, and end-market distribution of livestock products and animal health services. Learn more about SSLLP

OKOA MAISHA YA WATOTO (SAVE CHILDREN'S LIVES), TANZANIA

OKOA MAISHA YA WATOTO (OMAWA) is an NGO established by a group of teachers in 2010 in the Moshi rural district, Kilimanjaro region in Tanzania. Through the provision of psycho-social and school support, OMAWA delivers real help to orphans and other vulnerable children in rural areas of Moshi. With the support of the New Africa Fund, OMAWA will implement a Piggery and Poultry Project for Grandmothers Caring for their Orphaned Grandchildren in rural districts in Tanzania. SENEGAL HEALTH INSTITUTE (SHI)

SHI operates a women’s health and birth center that provides reproductive health care, safe, compassionate birthing practices, prenatal, postpartum, newborn care, and family planning services as well as counseling. SHI also runs a thriving adolescent girls program and recently launched a child nutrition program for children ages 6 months to 5 years. The New Africa Fund has funded the purchase of a portable ultrasound unit and training of midwifery staff in its use as the number of births and demand for reproductive healthcare continue to grow at the Senegal Health Institute.  Learn more about Senegal Health Institute

HOPE FOR THE INNOCENT CHILD DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION, UGANDA

Hope for the Innocent Child Development Foundation (HICDEF) works in 5 sub-counties in the remote Rukungiri district of Uganda with a mission to empower women, children, and communities to become self-sufficient, poverty-free, and violence-free. HICDEF constructed a school to offer free education for over 50 learners yearly. HICDEF also constructed a water access project with a 10,000-litre water tank leading to over 90% of 249 area households having access to a safe and clean water supply. With the support of the New Africa Fund, HICDEF will establish a skill center for vocational trainings and venture into market-driven solutions to fight poverty. Click here to learn more about HICDEF
